Embark, a startup company in San Francisco that makes self-driving semi-trucks, recently hit a transportation milestone. The company's autonomous semi-truck drove itself about 2,400 mi. from Los Angeles to Jacksonville, Fla., CNBC reported. Embark's co-founder and CEO Alex Rodrigues said that so far, the company has installed its self-driving systems into five trucks. Ground will soon break on the world's very first 3D-printed house in the woods by the Tennessee River in Chattanooga, Tenn. The WATG Urban design, which showcases a series of curved angles and windows, won the Freeform Home Design Challenge in 2016, inhabitat reported. Since winning, WATG Urban has teamed up with Branch Technology, an architecture firm with a focus on 3D printing. "The arching form provides structural rigidity to the residence, using various spring points throughout the floor plan, allowing the structure to carry roof loads and provide large open-plan living spaces, shaping structures in new ways without any restrictions," Branch Technology said of the house's design, which is meant to evoke both a futuristic feel, along with a connection to the surrounding nature, inhabitat reported. State Awards Contract to Fix Dilapidated Interchange →

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) Rhode Island plans to rebuild a dilapidated highway interchange, making it safer for the 90,000 vehicles that traverse it daily and eliminating the millions of dollars the state spends on minor fixes. The state Department of Transportation signed a contract on Dec. 21 with 6/10 Constructors, a design and build team of companies with ties to Rhode Island and New England. Motorists will soon have a second way of getting in and out of Bar Nunn. The Wyoming Transportation Commission awarded 71 Construction, of Casper, a $6.8 million contract to construct a new interchange at Bar Nunn during its meeting in November.
