New York State Backs Down on Rural Large Truck Limits →
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) Members of a task force charged with overseeing implementation of new trucking rules said the state Department of Transportation has scrapped a proposal to ban large trucks from seven state highways in the Finger Lakes. The New York Farm Bureau said it’s pleased the DOT reconsidered. Acting DOT Commissioner Stanley Gee announced the decision April 12 to Gov. David Paterson’s Trucking Industry and Community Relations Task Force, saying the proposal would have simply rerouted trucks through neighboring communities. Click for more...

East Manufacturing figured its unconventional trailer concept would create a lot of interest and comment at the Mid America Truck Show in March. TURIN, Italy (AP) Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne announced April 21 that the company will spin off its businesses in farm and construction equipment as well as heavy trucks in order to “give birth” to a global auto company that could feasibly build 6 million cars by 2014. “We believe right now is the time to produce the spin off,” Marchionne told analysts after presenting Fiat’s five year business plan. U.S. Army Again Chooses Mack Trucks →
Mack Trucks Inc. has received three additional delivery orders for Mack Vision Elite model tractors from the U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command. The orders are part of a three-year $28.5 million contract for 152 heavy-duty tractors and trailers, as well as spare parts. Orders received under this contract since its inception in October 2008 already total $20.2 million, but the Army has the option under the contract to order additional product from Mack beyond the quantities outlined in the original award.
