Coal Trucks Get Smoother Ride in Emery County, Utah →

The majestic mountain views of SR 10 may once again be enjoyed by travelers who no longer have to worry about keeping their eyes glued to the precarious roadway. A new 3-mi. (4.8 km) stretch of SR 10 is now open to car and truck traffic between Emery and Muddy Creek in Emery County, Utah. Mack Trucks Calls Back 75 Laid-Off Workers →

ALLENTOWN, Pa (AP) Mack Trucks is recalling 75 laid-off workers to its Lehigh Valley manufacturing plant. The truck maker said it’s benefiting from improving demand for highway vehicles. Company spokesman John Walsh said the recall is effective June 21. It will bring the number of workers at the plant to 750. Kenworth Truck Company will offer factory-installed, front drive axles for the Kenworth T270 Class 6 and T370 Class 7 models. The new Kenworth front drive axle was introduced at the 57th annual Electric Utility Fleet Managers Conference (EUFMC) in Williamsburg, Va. Stoltz Delivers Highway Trailer Spreader to SC DOT →

Stoltz Site Spreaders of Morgantown, Pa., and Carolina Trailer of Landrum, S.C., put together the winning bid for a new cement spreader design specified by the South Carolina Department of Transportation. It required a 15 ton (13.6 t) self-contained soil stabilization spreader on a highway-rated fifth wheel trailer. New York State Backs Down on Rural Large Truck Limits →

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) Members of a task force charged with overseeing implementation of new trucking rules said the state Department of Transportation has scrapped a proposal to ban large trucks from seven state highways in the Finger Lakes. The New York Farm Bureau said it’s pleased the DOT reconsidered. Acting DOT Commissioner Stanley Gee announced the decision April 12 to Gov. David Paterson’s Trucking Industry and Community Relations Task Force, saying the proposal would have simply rerouted trucks through neighboring communities.  Click for more...
