Trolley-Capable 860E-1K Joins Komatsu’s Fleet of Mining Trucks →

Komatsu America Corp.’s 860E-1K electric drive rigid frame dump truck has a nominal payload of 280 tons (254 t) and a factory installed trolley-capable option. The power plant in the 860E is the Komatsu SSDA16V160, a 2,700 hp, 16-cylinder, two-stage turbocharged diesel. Komatsu’s trolley system can be utilized on either 1,600 or 1,800 volt lines, allowing the 860E to propel uphill faster while the engine RPM reduces, thereby saving fuel and extending the life of the engine compared to non-trolley, according to the manufacturer.  Click for more...


A Lane of Their Own: VDOT to Add Truck Climbing Lanes on I-81 →

A new truck climbing lane is currently under construction in Virginia along Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County near Lexington. The project is reportedly in line with a resolution passed by the Commonwealth Transportation Board in Oct. 2006 that directed the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) to implement a program of safety improvements to I-81, including the construction of truck climbing lanes.  Click for more...


Mack to Participate in SuperTruck Development →

Mack Trucks Inc. will participate in the development of technologies to improve the freight-moving efficiency of heavy-duty trucks and reduce greenhouse gas emissions as part of a SuperTruck contract with the U.S. Department of Energy under which the Volvo Group, of which Mack is a part, is scheduled to receive $19 million in federal funding. Yancey Bros. Hosts Cat Truck Event at Its Austell Facility →

Caterpillar’s first-ever on-highway truck model rolled onto the showroom floor at Yancey Bros. Co.’s Austell, Ga., headquarters on July 22. Contractors and trucking firm representatives turned out in droves with approximately 300 attending the preview of the new Cat CT660 which was held in conjunction with Yancey’s customer appreciation cookout. The NTEA will hold The Work Truck Show, North America’s largest work truck event, in Indianapolis, Ind., March 6 to 8, 2012, at the Indiana Convention Center. Michelin Launches XDR2 Tire for Rigid Dump Trucks →

Michelin Earthmover unveiled the Michelin XDR2 tire for severe mining and quarry applications. The tire — designed for rigid dump trucks — offers up to 20 percent more tread life than its predecessor, the Michelin XDR tire and is available in a 27R49 size. Neutgens Excavating purchased an X-FORCE 55-ton (50 t) detachable trailer from Felling Trailers Inc. The X-Force trailer it ordered was fairly customized, as it included a 4 ft. (1.2 m) beavertail with air-operated rear loading ramps. It will be using the trailer to haul various pieces of heavy equipment.
