Hyster Company showcased its Tier IV H450HDS big truck at the ConExpo. Meeting the revised U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Tier IV Interim emissions standards for off-highway diesel engines, this outdoor truck is best suited for mining, general cargo, and lumber and steel mill applications. With a lifting capacity of 45,000 lbs. (20,411 kg) and 36-in. (91.4 cm) load center and 138-in. HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) The chemical mixture used to clear Connecticut’s highways may have done a good job eating through this winter’s heaps of ice and snow, but truckers believe it also could be eating through the undercarriage of their rigs. The Motor Transport Association of Connecticut wants the Department of Transportation commissioner to study the corrosive effects of the chemical road treatments on state, local and private vehicles, as well as on roads, bridges and the environment. The 47th Annual National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) Convention in conjunction with the Work Truck Show was held March 8 to 10 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis. Billed as North America’s largest work truck show, the event drew more than 10,000 attendees, spanned 500,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space and featured more than 500 exhibitors. When three subsidiaries (Century Concrete, Fordyce Concrete and Material Transport) of the largest American-owned cement manufacturer in the country were looking to purchase dependable and reliable trucks several years ago, the choice was Kenworth W900S mixers and Kenworth T800 dump trucks. They haven’t looked back and now operate more than 60 Kenworth trucks. Truck Maker Volvo Posts Q4 Profit →
STOCKHOLM (AP) Swedish truck maker AB Volvo on Feb 4 posted a profit for the fourth quarter, bouncing back due to a jump in sales on all its markets as well as success in keeping costs down. Still, the earnings missed analyst expectations somewhat, mainly on the back of higher raw material prices and unfavorable exchange rates. CEO Leif Johansson, who is leaving his post in the second half of the year, said his company had ended 2010 strongly, attributing the success to increased sales and “a conscious effort to maintain our costs on a low level.” Johansson said Volvo is seeing a continued gradual improvement in Europe as well as a healthy recovery in North America.
