XL Specialized Trailers has launched its XL 90 hydraulic detachable extendable (HDE) to the market. The XL 90 HDE uses XL's extendable technology to extend the main deck from 28 ft. 4 in. to 50 ft. 3 in. (8.6 to 15 m) with extension stops every 24 in. (61 cm).

The Extend-A-Trac uses 6-in. (15 cm) greasable rollers with oil-impregnated bronze bushings for smoother extension and retraction. The 53-ft. 5-in. (16.3 m) long trailer has a flip axle to help scale large loads and a 44-in. (112 cm) flip neck with kingpin settings at 16 and 24 in. (40.6 and 61 cm), which together make the unit 84 ft. (25.6 m) long when extended. A detachable wheel area allows drivers to insert more decking.

The XL 90 HDE features an 18-in. (45.7 cm) loaded deck height on the main deck, while the rear deck transitions to just a 24-in. height, making the unit ideal for tall loads. This extremely low rear deck height is achieved by cutting the axles through the web of the trailer.

Operators will appreciate the extra versatility of the XL 90 HDE. The unit comes with a pin-on axle, yet is prepped for a single-axle power booster as well. The gooseneck features variable ride with five ride height positions, a 13-hp unit with cover, and 74-in. (188 cm) swing clearance. Other features include a psi system, a 20,000-lb. brake rating, a second leveling valve and a shut-off valve on all axles. A 4-way plug runs the electrical dump valve and also dumps the air from the flip axle. A 4+3+4 taillight system plus four clearance lights per side and mid-turn lights make the HDE highly visible.

“The XL 90 HDE is one of those unique products that has a versatile spec and lots of desired options,” said Rodney Crim, vice president of sales of XL. “We believe this trailer will benefit many drivers out there and we had a lot of interest from customers when we introduced it at the Mid-America Trucking Show.”
