LB Water is a distributor of utility infrastructure products such as fire hydrants, water metering products, pipes, valves, fittings and connections for the municipal and construction industries. Founded in 1970, LB Water has been providing quality water and wastewater solutions for decades and has eight full-service offices located in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia. In an industry as vital as this, LB Water has no time for down time.

LB Water’s line of work requires a vast amount of loading and unloading of products being transported on flatbed trucks, many of which are heavy and bulky. The company requires versatile, four wheel drive equipment to perform this task quickly and efficiently. Additionally, LB Water needs equipment to use for snow removal on their office premises.

When its old equipment was no longer making the cut, LB Water connected with Walsh Equipment due to its conveniently located offices near LB Water’s Pennsylvania headquarters as well as its reputation as a JCB dealer, a brand LB Water knew to be a leader in construction equipment. LB Water worked closely with the Walsh Equipment sales team to determine what equipment would best suit their needs. After exploring various different options, LB Water settled on purchasing two JCB telehandlers, a 527-55 and a 536-60, as well as three JCB TL T35D teletruks.

Ideal for maneuvering in small spaces, the JCB 527-55 compact telehandler has a 74 hp (55 kW) engine, a maximum lift capacity of 5,952 lbs. (2,700 kg), a maximum lift height of 18.4 ft. (5.6 m) and a tight turning radius of 9.8 ft. (3 m).

Designed for load bearing and stability, the JCB 536-60 telehandler has a 109 hp (81 kW) engine, a maximum lift capacity of 7,937 lbs. (3,600 kg), and a maximum lift height of 23 ft. (7 m).

The versatile and efficient four wheel drive TL T35D JCB teletruk has a 62 hp (46 kW) engine, a maximum lift capacity of 7,716 lbs. (3,500 kg), a maximum lift height of 6.6 ft (2 m) and a forward reach of 8 ft. (2.4 m).

“Walsh Equipment was impressive to work with. They are experts in their field, which made my job in purchasing the equipment a simple one,” said Kevin Tanger, senior locations manager and chairperson of the fleet and equipment committee at LB Water. “They willingly presented us with many different options and sizes of equipment and laid out the pros and cons of each. They didn’t hesitate to continue to work with us until we were confident we had reached the best decision for our needs.”

According to Chad Brocious, vice president of sales at Walsh Equipment, LB Water was a pleasure to work with from start to finish.

“We suggested slightly different equipment than what LB Water was used to, but they were open and receptive to our recommendations based on our evaluation of their needs. They really put their trust in us and it paid off. We’re glad they are highly satisfied.”

It wasn’t long after the purchase that LB Water began to see firsthand the significant benefits of the JCB telehandlers and teletruks, including improved efficiency. With the extendable boom on the telehandlers and teletruks, LB Water operators are able to load and unload flatbed trucks from one side by reaching across the truck, as opposed to going back and forth between sides as a typical forklift would require. The extendable boom also allows for work in confined areas as well as the ability to reach over objects to get to what’s behind them instead of having to rearrange products. This feature alone saves LB Water considerable time, and in turn, considerable money, according to the company.

Additionally, the JCB telehandlers and teletruks have the ability to add attachments, which has proven to be very useful for LB Water. A bucket can easily be added to spread stone in the storage yards where it inventories pipe, and in the inevitable event of inclement weather, LB Water utilizes the JCB machines for snow removal.

“Snow removal has never been easier with our new JCB equipment,” said Tanger. “When we have heavy snows and large piles we can pick up the snow in the bucket and extend the boom out over the fence in our lot to clear it out of our way so we don’t have to work around it.”

LB Water looks forward to working more efficiently with their JCB telehandlers and teletruks from Walsh Equipment for many years to come.
